As Africa’s digital landscape rapidly evolves, tech leaders gathered on May 14, at the inaugural AmCham Business Summit 2025 to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming key sectors across the continent.
During a panel titled “Leveraging the Power of AI for Digital Transformation in Africa,” Dr. Thierry Wandji, CEO of Cybastion, joined other top tech executives to highlight how AI is reshaping industries in Africa, including health care, agriculture, education, finance and public services.
“Building a sustainable and resilient digital ecosystem to power AI in Africa will require the integration of robust digital transformation ranging from data center construction, critical minerals, energy, and power,” Wandji said.
Dr. Wandji emphasized the importance of deploying AI-driven solutions that are tailored to enhance lives of local citizens. Cybastion offers a range of e-government services such as e-tax, e-tourism platform, and digital IDs.
Moderated by Kendra Gaither, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center, other panelists included Marek Busfy, CEO for Africa and Asia at American Tower Corporation; Katier Bamba, Director General of Wave Côte d’Ivoire; and Michael Coyle, CEO of AeroStar Dynamics.
The panelists highlighted how AI can accelerate innovation and growth in Africa. The panel session also pointed out the opportunities and challenges in increasing access to AI and online services for underserved populations.
The AmCham Business Summit, held on the margins of the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, brought together African, U.S. and global government officials, business leaders and investors to explore new opportunities and partnerships to boost trade and investment in Africa. The panel was part of a full-day of panels and deal announcements.
Wandji drew attention to the DigiEmpower workforce training initiative, a partnership between Cybastion and Cisco, in collaboration with African governments to provide digital skills, including AI courses, to young people and women.
