The Challenge
Public trust in law enforcement is a cornerstone of effective governance, yet many African nations face challenges in ensuring transparency and accountability in police and customs operations. Without audiovisual tools to document officers' interactions with the public, disputes over alleged crimes and law enforcement conduct may be difficult to resolve, hampering criminal investigations and reducing the quality of evidence.
In Benin, the government recognized that modernizing law enforcement with body-worn camera technology could help address these challenges by strengthening public trust, improving evidence collection, and enhancing officer safety and professionalism.
Our Solution and Impact
Cybastion partnered with the Beninese Republican Police and Customs authorities to design and deploy a comprehensive body camera program. The initiative encompasses hardware procurement and deployment, secure evidence management infrastructure, and extensive training for officers and supervisors. Each body camera system is integrated with a secure cloud-based evidence management platform that ensures footage is stored, catalogued, and retrievable in compliance with legal and privacy requirements.
Beninese police officers received hands-on training on how to use the new body-worn camera technology and responsibly document interactions with the public as well as privacy considerations.
By equipping police with body camera technology, Benin's Republican Police and Customs will bolster the operational efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement operations and foster greater trust between law enforcement and public.
